Once upon a time, there was a millionaire who suffered because of a severe pain in his eyes. He consulted many doctors and underwent treatment. Each of those ophthalmologists suggested medication like tablets and injections to combat the pain and to address the root cause of the pain.
But the pain persisted with great vigor. At last, a monk who has supposed to be an expert in treating such patients was called upon by the millionaire. The monk understood his problem and said that for some time he should concentrate only on green colours and asked him not to look at any of the other colours.
The millionaire got together a group of painters and purchased barrels of green paint and directed that every object his eye was likely to fall on be painted green as the monk had asked him not to set his eyes upon any other colour.
When the monk came to visit the millionaire after a few days, the millionaire’s servants ran with buckets of green paint and poured it on the monk. The monk was dressed in red robes and the servants were afraid that if their master saw the monk in red robes, their masterโs eye pain would return.
Hearing this, the wise monk laughed and said, “If only you had purchased a pair of green spectacles worth just a few rupees, you could have saved these walls and trees and pots and all other articles and also could have saved a large share of his fortune. You cannot paint the whole world green.”
We find a lot of people who are very similar to the millionaire in this story โ they act without thinking and try to place impose their ideas and will upon the society without think twice about its merits. They do not care about the inconvenience their foolishness causes or how other people suffer because of their short-sightedness.
Let us change the way we look at our World. Let us not burden people with our polarized thoughts. This is after all, a country that constitutionally guarantees liberty of thought, religion and action. Any attempt to shape the world to suit our ideal vision of it is abject foolishness. We live in a society and it is of the highest importance that we first learn to respect each other. To all those who are warring in the name of religion, economic ideas and more, think again.
