Hello

Which are the busiest shipping canals of the World?

1–2 minutes

The busiest canals of the World are:

1) Suez canal – is built across this isthmus and it stretches 192kms which allows ships to pass through to Europe and forms the sole link between Asia and Europe. It forms one of the main oil passageways of the World.

2) Rhine- Main-Danube Canal (Europa Canal) – also called the RMD canal. It links the 3 most important rivers of Western Europe. It connects the Atlantic ocean with the Black Sea through the North Sea (which is anyways a part of the Atlantic ocean).

Germany, Belgium and Netherlands are already connected to the North sea and they use this canal to transport their goods through the Sea. The extended canal is more important for inland and landlocked countries like Hungary, Austria and Slovakia.

3) The Volga-Don canals – The Volga and Don rivers are connected using this 101km canal. The canal forms a part of the Unified Deep Water System of European Russia. It links the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea (which is further connected to the Atlantic ocean through the Europa Canal). It lies entirely in Russia.

4) The Kiel Canal – through Germany links the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. It is a 98km freshwater canal and saves ships passing around Denmark to reach the Baltic sea from the North Sea.

5) The White Sea Baltic sea canal – The White Sea is part of the Arctic Ocean. This is an internal navigation canal for Russia.
