Hello

What is a Bight?

1โ€“2 minutes

A bight is a bend or curve in any geographical feature such as a coast, or a large bay. If a bay is shallow, it is known as a Bight. A sound on the other hand is deeper.

A bight is a large and often shallow indentation along a coastline, larger than a bay but smaller and less enclosed than a gulf. It is a broad, open bay, often formed by the bend or curve of a shoreline, or where the coastline itself forms a gentle arc.

Bights can span hundreds of kilometers along a coast and often provide a safe harbor for ships. However, due to their open nature, they are generally less protected from storms compared to smaller bays and inlets.
